FGCU Facing Serious Sudget Cuts in the Battle for Funding

-No author listed
  •  Students facing increased tuition due to budget cuts will affect students negatively
  •   FGCU is facing millions of dollars in budget cuts which will increase   tuition by 15%.
  •  If tuition is increased, students may be forced to change schools.
  •  When budget cuts are made school programs suffer.

I agree that many will suffer if budgets are slashed. Students will not be able to afford tuition and be forced to attend less expensive colleges.  I don’t believe that educational institutions should be forced to take on the burden. We should be working to preserve our educations. Education leads to jobs and cuts in education should be the last resort.

It seems as though this article focused more on cuts in school programs when the real problem is the increase in the cost of tuition. The author concludes in the article how programs will be affected, not how students will be affected by the tuition increase.  It also doesn’t address how cuts will affect instructors and class size, leading less classes being offered.  The article does depict how it will hurt students who are already straining to pay their tuition.

  1. I have a mutual feeling with you about cutting the education budget should be the last resort. Because now we live in the world where education is priority more than anything else. If the tuition fee increases, eventually will in my opinion, students are less likely to live in the dorm, thus effecting the school budget. I know that U.S. is in lots of debt but still cutting school budget should be the last choice.

Great post, most students will agree with you.

  2. I completely agree with your choice in articles and think that the budget cuts you are mentioning are even more frightening for us because we may have to deal with the consequences of them soon, great choice.

  3. Danielle,
I love that you found a very personal topic that is so relevant to all of us as FGCU students. I'm not sure if we were supposed to, but it was a lot more convenient to read your bullet summaries than a summary paragraph. I like your response to the article, but I love even more that you went on to refute it and added your own solution. It shows you went beyond the general "read and respond" and you really thought and made it your own.
